What is Preventive Well Care?

Similar to changing the oil in your car, your pet’s health requires routine veterinary visits. Because your pets can’t tell us what is wrong, it is important for us to track their health on a regular basis. This way we can catch subtle changes early while keeping small problems small. This means your pet is not only healthier, you also will spend less money in the long run.

Some of the preventive services your pet(s) require are bi-annual physical exams, yearly vaccinations, annual bloodwork, proper diet/nutrition/exercise, dental cleanings, and parasite screenings/prevention. By giving your pet(s) these routine services you allow us to work together and have a dramatic impact on your pet’s overall health and well-being.

The best veterinary care for your pet is preventative care. This means routine vaccinations, comprehensive bi-annual physicals, proper nutrition, flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention, yearly blood work diagnostics, and proper dental cleaning. Preventive care not only increases the overall health and longevity of your pet but also ends up reducing your veterinary bills by treating small problems before they turn into emergencies. Along with providing routine wellness care, our staff is capable of handling most surgical procedures and is always available to answer any of your questions.

The cost of veterinary care can get expensive. While we do our best to keep costs affordable we understand that it can be challenging to meet the financial needs of your pet(s). That is why we reccomend Pet Insurance. While we are happy to give you recommendations and information, ultimately it is up to you to research and decide which plan meets both you and your pets needs.  Below are some Pet Insurance companies that we encourage you to consider.

If you have any further questions about the importance of preventative care and how these plans can help save you thousands in potential vet bills, don’t hesitate to give us a call today

FAQs

What is included in a wellness visit?
It’s more than just vaccinations! A wellness visit is a comprehensive “nose-to-tail” assessment. We evaluate your pet’s heart and lung function, check joint mobility, screen for hidden parasites, and assess dental health. We also use this time to discuss nutrition, behavior, and any subtle changes you’ve noticed at home.
My pet seems fine. Why do they need an exam?
Because pets are naturally programmed to hide pain and illness, “looking healthy” doesn’t always tell the whole story. Regular exams allow us to catch “silent” issues—like heart murmurs, early kidney disease, or dental issues—long before your pet shows outward signs of distress. Early detection is the key to a longer, happier life.
How often should my pet come in for a checkup?
For most healthy adult pets, one comprehensive exam per year is perfect. However, because our furry friends age faster than we do, we recommend every six months for senior pets and young puppies or kittens. Think of it ‘s yearly physical” for a human, but condensed to match their faster biological clock.
