Microchipping

It’s a terrible feeling to know that your pet is lost and on their own, but it’s an avoidable one. Microchipping pets is the best way to ensure their safe return in the unfortunate event that they become lost.

We know your pets are members of your family, and we want to make sure you stay together. We highly advise all pet owners to microchip their pets.

FAQs

What is a microchip, and how does it work?
A microchip is a tiny electronic chip—about the size of a grain of rice—that is implanted under your pet’s skin. It is not a GPS tracker; rather, it acts as a permanent digital ID. When scanned by a veterinarian or shelter, the chip transmits a unique identification number that links to your contact information in a national database.
Is the implantation process painful for my pet?
Not at all! The procedure is fast, safe, and very similar to a routine vaccination. We use a specialized needle to place the chip between the shoulder blades. No anesthesia or surgery is required, and most pets don’t even flinch during the process.
Why is microchipping better than just using a collar and tags?
While collars and tags are important, they can easily break, fall off, or be removed. A microchip is permanent and cannot be lost. According to national studies, microchipped dogs are over twice as likely to be reunited with their owners, and for cats, the reunion rate is over 20 times higher than those without chips.
Once my pet is chipped, is there anything else I need to do?
Yes—this is the most important step!
A microchip is only effective if your contact information is up to date in the manufacturer’s registry. If you move or change your phone number, you must update your profile online. Without your current info, the chip is just a number with no way to lead your pet back to you.
